Following the BJP tradition of changing the names of special places, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also demanded to change the name of New Delhi Railway Station to “Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station”
The Chief Minister further wrote that this move will not be limited to just changing the name, but it will make people feel connected to their heritage and glorious history. He urged the Railway Minister to consider the matter seriously and take an early decision. Two senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders said the chief minister's proposal was well thought out and aimed at strengthening the cultural identity rather than any political gains. However, no official response has been made by Railways in this regard.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In this letter, he has demanded to rename the Old Delhi Railway Station as "Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station." "Maharaja Agrasen was not just a king, but a symbol of social service, equality and justice. He always worked for the well-being and welfare of the people in his life, so naming this historic station after him would be a befitting step. Rekha Gupta wrote this letter on June 19, but the information has come out now. In the letter, he has said that Delhi is a historical and cultural city and the prominent places and institutions here should be connected with such great personalities who have had a deep impact on society. Maharaja Agrasen is such a historical character, who is given a lot of respect, especially in the Agarwal society. The Chief Minister further wrote that this move will not be limited to just changing the name, but it will make people feel connected to their heritage and glorious history. He urged the Railway Minister to consider the matter seriously and take an early decision.
