An interstate gang involved in manufacturing and selling fake medicines in the name of reputed pharmaceutical companies like Johnson & Johnson, GSK and Alkem across the country has been busted
The gang members used social media platforms like Facebook to communicate. Packaging boxes for fake medicines were procured from different places. The foil and blister packing materials were sourced from Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. The fake medicines were manufactured in factories in Haryana's Jind and Himachal Pradesh's Baddi. Prepared fake medicines were supplied across the country by rail and road. The money was routed through fake bank accounts and hawala channels.

In a major crackdown, the Anti-Gang Squad of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted an inter-state gang of fake medicines. The police have arrested 6 people including the kingpin of the gang, Rajesh Mishra. A large quantity of spurious medicines and their ingredients have been seized. The racket was being run in a very organised and hi-tech manner. The money was being transferred through hawala transactions. According to the police, the gang used to make fake medicines in the name of reputed pharmaceutical companies like Johnson & Johnson, GSK and Alkem and sell them across the country. The gang had spread its tentacles in various parts of the country. The drive was being carried out from Moradabad, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Panipat, Jind, Baddi and Solan.
Head Constable Jitendra had received an input from the informer that a large consignment of spurious medicines was being brought to Delhi. Based on the information, a trap was laid at a petrol pump in the Civil Lines area on July 30, 2025. As soon as a WagonR car with UP number reached the spot, it was stopped and the occupants, Mohammad Alam and Mohammad Salim, were taken into custody.
According to the police, both the accused are residents of Moradabad. During the search, a large quantity of fake Ultracet and Augmentin tablets were recovered from them. Representatives of Johnson & Johnson and GSK, who were present at the spot, saw the packaging and stamping of these medicines and declared them fake. Later, lab tests confirmed that they were fake.
