The condition of higher education in Madhya Pradesh is from bad to worse! 74% of the professor posts in the universities of the state are vacant! Many universities do not have even a single professor

Even more shocking is the fact that in five universities there isn’t a single assistant professor. Raja Shankar Shah University in Chhindwara, Krantiveer Tantya Tope University in Guna, Kranti Surya Tantya Bhil University in Khargone, Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University in Chhatarpur, and Rani Avantibai Lodhi University in Sagar have no full-time faculty members for students. These universities were announced just before the elections, which means thousands of students are enrolled in universities with not a single professor present to teach them.

The condition of higher education in Madhya Pradesh is from bad to worse! 74% of the professor posts in the universities of the state are vacant! Many universities do not have even a single professor

The state of higher education in Madhya Pradesh is dire: universities exist, but there are no teachers to instruct there. The government itself admitted in the Legislative Assembly that 74 percent of the approved assistant professor positions in the state's 17 government universities remain vacant. Out of a total of 1,069 approved positions, 793 have yet to be filled. This startling revelation was made by Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar in response to a question from Congress MLA Sanjay Uikey.
The minister also revealed that there are 93 subjects for which no assistant professors have been appointed. Across all 17 universities in the state, only 276 assistant professors are currently working— a figure that reveals the deepening crisis in higher education.
It’s not just the professors; the situation regarding librarian positions is equally dismal. In response to BJP MLA Dr. Chintamani Malviya’s question, the government disclosed that out of 582 approved librarian posts, only 236 have been filled, leaving 346 vacancies.
In recent years, the government has grandly inaugurated many new universities, cut ribbons, and made promises. However, today those very universities are operating without teachers, without resources, and without direction.
