"Comments against the court on social media? We'll take them by the horns - CJI's stern warning"

During the hearing, the court also expressed displeasure over the stand of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The court said it was equally disturbed by the stand of the NCERT director and it was disappointed that not a single eminent jurist was part of the committee dealing with the matter.

"Comments against the court on social media? We'll take them by the horns - CJI's stern warning"

NCERT book controversy: The Supreme Court of India took a strong stand during the hearing of the controversy over the chapter related to corruption in the judiciary in the NCERT book. During the hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant expressed deep anguish over the comments being made against the judiciary on social media.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that some people are irresponsibly making indecent remarks against the judiciary on social media, which the court will not tolerate. Such people will be "caught by the horns" and legal action will be taken against them, he said in a stern tone.

The court directed the Government of India to identify such social media platforms and individuals who have made objectionable comments against the judiciary. The court said that the law should be allowed to take its course and appropriate action should be taken against the guilty.

The Chief Justice also made it clear that even if such people were sitting outside the country, they would not be spared. He said that those who make comments against the court can also be dragged from abroad as it is very important to maintain the dignity of the judiciary.

During the hearing, the court also expressed displeasure over the stand of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The court said it was equally disturbed by the stand of the NCERT director and it was disappointed that not a single eminent jurist was part of the committee dealing with the matter.

The court directed that if the chapter is rewritten, it should not be published till the committee of subject experts reviews and approves it. The court said that sensitive topics like judiciary should be presented with utmost responsibility and balance in the education material.
