The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to conduct the Class 10 board exams from the next session. The Union Cabinet has approved the draft rules for conducting Class 10 examinations twice a year from the next session. The board has released a notification regarding the same on its official website. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Education Minister. Under this, the board examination of class 10 will be held twice in 2026. The first exam will be held from February 17 to March 6, 2026, while the second exam will be held from May 5 to May 20, 2026. Both the exams will be conducted on full syllabus.

If you are thinking that the meaning of the exam twice is that half of the syllabus is in the first exam and then the remaining half in the second exam, then let us tell you that it is not so. The first / second examinations will also serve as supplementary examinations. No special examination will be conducted under any circumstances.

According to the information given by the board, the practical / internal assessment will be done only once. The registration for Class 10 board exams in 2026 will be completed by September this year. At the same time, students will also have to tell whether they want to appear in both the exams or only in the first or second exam. At the time of registration, you have to tell the optional subject. After that, no changes can be made. No passing document will be issued after the result of the first examination. The result of the first test will be available in DigiLocker. If the student does not want to appear in the second examination then it can be used for admission to class 11. All the candidates will get a mark sheet after the exam. Additional items are not allowed. This means that students will not be given admission to stand-alone subjects after passing Class X.

No subject will be changed after submitting the LOC. If a student wants to change the subject after submitting the LOC, he / she will be allowed only in the second examination. Such students may choose not to appear in that subject during the first examination. If they appear in the first exam, they will not be allowed to change the subject in the second exam.It will be mandatory to fill the LOC for the first test. The option of both the exams will be obtained in the LOC while filling the LOC for the first exam. No new name will be added to the LOC of the second exam.
