Supreme Court pulls up Centre over pornography on YouTube

The Supreme Court today heard the contempt petition filed against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for his sexist remarks on a YouTube show. The Supreme Court has taken a stern stand on the Central Government regarding the pornography spread in the YouTube platform. During the hearing, the Supreme Court asked the Centre if it wanted to do anything about the pornographic content circulating on YouTube.
A bench headed by Justice Surya Kant expressed concern over the misuse of digital platforms. "We want you (government) to do something," Justice Surya Kant told Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Aishwarya Bhati. If the government is ready to do something, we will be happy. Otherwise we will not leave this void and barren area the way the so-called YouTube channels and YouTubers are misusing it. '
The court also sought assistance of Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta in the matter. At the same time, the Supreme Court said that we should not ignore the importance and sensitivity of this issue.
