Firing at CRPF camp in Assam One killed, 3 seriously injured Investigation into the incident is underway

The tragic incident of firing at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Katimari in Nagaon district of Assam on Monday has shaken the entire security apparatus. According to preliminary information, an ASI posted inside the camp allegedly fired at fellow jawans with his service rifle, following which three jawans were killed while another jawan was critically injured. Following the incident, security has been beefed up in the area and a probe has been initiated.

In the firing, jawans Ramnawal Singh Yadav and Vishnu Prasad Baghel were critically injured and died before they could be treated. After this, ASI Ballani Premabaram allegedly shot himself, leading to his death. The injured jawan, Govind Sripul, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nagaon and his condition is stated to be critical.

Senior officials of the CRPF, local police and other security agencies rushed to the spot after the incident. Police are collecting evidence from the spot and further investigation is on.

The reason behind the firing has not been ascertained yet. The investigating agencies are probing the case from all angles, including personal disputes, mental stress, reasons related to duty and other possible aspects. Officials said the exact cause of the incident would be ascertained after investigation.

The CRPF and other security forces are in a state of shock after the incident. The incident also calls for a serious discussion on critical issues like mental health of security forces personnel, workplace stress and the need for timely psychological support.
