The Supreme Court today held a hearing on the rising air pollution in Delhi-NCR. The Supreme Court has turned down the suggestion to stop all construction work in Delhi amid rising air pollution. "This will affect a large number of people. Instead of taking such steps, we have to think of a long-term solution. CAQM takes appropriate steps according to the pollution situation. ' The court asked the Centre to hold a meeting with the governments of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and suggest a long-term solution. We have given 1 day's time. The case will now be heard on Wednesday, November 19. Along with this, the court also sought an affidavit on whether the equipment being used to monitor pollution in Delhi is capable of doing so. On the other hand, people are facing a lot of problems due to increasing pollution in Delhi. Air pollution continues to wreak havoc in Delhi and its adjoining areas. As per the data at 5 am on Monday, the city's average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 359, which falls in the 'very poor' category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI in several areas such as Bawana reached 427, which is the 'severe' level. There was slight improvement in air quality at some places till afternoon, but the overall situation remains worrisome.
