In the 2024 Assembly elections, he had secured a massive lead of over 1.81 lakh votes while contesting against 24 candidates, including his nephew Yogendra Pawar.
The by-election to the politically important Baramati assembly seat in Maharashtra has now seen a major upheaval. The Congress party has decided to withdraw the name of its candidate Akash Vishwanath More from this seat. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar is expected to be elected unopposed. So far, 23 candidates have withdrawn from the electoral battle in Baramati.
The Congress had announced advocate Akash More as its candidate for the Baramati bypoll. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had approved his candidature, which was formally informed by general secretary K.C. Venugopal on April 5, 2026. However, the party has now decided to strategically withdraw from the election. The Baramati seat is considered a stronghold of the Pawar family. Ajit Pawar had won the seat eight times in a row.
