The nationwide mass verification of voter lists has begun, with the Election Commission reaching out to 367.3 million voters.
According to the Commission, around 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) will be involved in this process. The main objective is to make the electoral rolls more transparent, accurate and error-free so as to strengthen the faith of the people in the electoral system.
The Election Commission of India has announced the commencement of the third phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Under this campaign, door-to-door verification of crores of voters will be done in 13 states and 3 union territories including Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Telangana.
According to the Commission, around 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) will be involved in this process. The Election Commission said that after the completion of the third phase, the SIR process will be completed in most parts of the country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Separate schedules will be issued for these areas keeping in view the weather and census schedule.
