The Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award has been renamed the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. This was informed by the Sports Ministry of India. The Sports Ministry said four athletes, including Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and chess world champion D Gukesh, will receive the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award. Apart from Manu Bhaker and world champion D Gukesh, Harmanpreet Singh and para athlete Praveen Kumar will also be conferred with the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is India's highest sporting honour. The Sports Ministry also selected 32 athletes, including 17 para-athletes, for the Arjuna Award. Surprisingly, not a single cricketer is among the 32 sportspersons selected for the Arjuna Award.
The 22-year-old Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at the same edition of the Olympics by winning bronze medals in the 10m air pistol individual and 10m air pistol mixed team events. Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Kaur won India's second medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
