This time the big news has come out from the sources regarding the caste census. The date of caste census has been ascertained. The caste census may begin from March 1, 2027. According to sources, the caste census will be conducted in 2 phases. The caste census will start in the first 4 states. In the first phase, the caste census will be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. It will start from October 1, 2026. In the second phase, the caste census will begin in all other states and union territories. It will start from March 1, 2027. That is, the caste census will start from March 2027 in the plain states and the caste census will start from October 1, 2026 in the hilly states. The Census 2021 was similarly proposed to be conducted in two phases, the first phase during April-September 2020 and the second phase in February 2021. All preparations for the first phase of Census to be conducted in 2021 had been completed and field work was about to start in some States / UTs from 1st April, 2020. However, the census work had to be postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic across the country. The government had recently decided to conduct a caste census. Actually, the caste enumeration, which was regularly held from 1881 to 1931, was stopped in the first census of 1951. In 2011, caste data was collected under the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC), but this data was not fully used. A caste census is a process of collecting the number, socio-economic status, and other demographic information of different castes and social groups by surveying the population of a country or region. It is used in many policies and schemes, the benefit of which is also received by the public and the government also gets the right data.
