If people have to spend 11 hours more on a journey of 1 hour, then why would anyone pay a toll of Rs 150! Supreme Court reprimanded NHAI for the long delay

SG Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the NHAI has made alternative roads for the roads where the work of underpass is going on, but the work of underpass has also been affected due to the monsoon. During the hearing, CJI B R Gavai asked the NHAI how much toll is charged for the 65-km stretch, to which he was told that the toll was Rs 150. The CJI said that why would anyone give Rs 150 if he has to be stuck in a jam for 12 hours. On the way to 1 hour, people are having to spend 11 hours more. After the hearing, the court had reserved the decision on the plea.

If people have to spend 11 hours more on a journey of 1 hour, then why would anyone pay a toll of Rs 150! Supreme Court reprimanded NHAI for the long delay

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai has said that Delhi gets paralysed in two hours of rain. The court was hearing a petition filed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The petition has been filed in the Kerala High Court. A bench of Chief Justice B. R. Gavai and Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N. V. Anjaria was hearing a plea challenging a Kerala High Court order to stop toll collection on a highway. The High Court had stopped toll collection due to the bad condition of the road. The Supreme Court has reserved its order on NHAI's plea. During this, a lawyer mentioned the jam outside the Supreme Court, to which the Chief Justice made a rain-related comment. During the hearing, the court emphasized that this road takes 12 hours of long traffic. On August 14, the court had expressed its unwillingness to hear the plea and asked how people could be charged toll here when the roads were not in good condition, forcing people to get stuck in long jams. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for NHAI, said that the 12-hour long jam was caused because a lorry overturned there. On his argument, the court said that the lorry did not overturn on its own, it had overturned due to a pothole. SG Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the NHAI has made alternative roads for the roads where the work of underpass is going on, but the work of underpass has also been affected due to the monsoon. After the hearing, the court had reserved the decision on the plea.
