In the Haryana Sarpanch elections held 3 years ago, the Supreme Court made the defeated candidate win by recounting the EVMs!

On March 22 this year, the additional civil judge of Panipat ordered a recount of votes from the disputed booths, but the high court stayed it. Now the Supreme Court has overturned it. The Supreme Court has said that petitioner Mohit should be declared the winner and allowed to hold the post. If any other matter related to this election is pending, then it can be taken up before the Election Tribunal (i. e. Civil Judge of Panipat).

In the Haryana Sarpanch elections held 3 years ago, the Supreme Court made the defeated candidate win by recounting the EVMs!

In an interesting development, the Supreme Court ordered the recounting of EVMs of 6 booths of the sarpanch election held in Buana Lakhu, a village in Panipat, and declared the petitioner as the winner. The EVMs of booth numbers 65 to 70 were counted by a court registrar on August 6. The Supreme Court had ordered the re-counting on July 31. On August 11, the registrar's report was placed before a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant. The report revealed that petitioner Mohit Kumar got 51 votes more than Kuldeep Singh, who was declared the winner earlier. The Sarpanch election was held on 2 November 2022.
