In greed of 10 thousand rupees, a 22 year old youth drank 5 bottles of neat liquor! He died after drinking liquor without mixing it with water!

A 21-year-old man in Karnataka died after he along with his friends drank five bottles of liquor directly without adding water under the condition of Rs 10,000. Karthik had claimed in front of his friends Venkat Reddy, Subramani and three others that he could drink five bottles of water without mixing it with alcohol. Venkat Reddy had said that if he does so, he will give him Rs 10,000. Karthik emptied all the five bottles but his condition turned critical. He was rushed to a hospital in Mulbagal in Kolar district where he died during treatment. Kartik was married for just a year and his wife gave birth to a baby boy just eight days ago. A case has been registered against six persons, including Venkat Reddy and Subramani, at Nangli police station. Two of them have been arrested and a search is on for the others. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol consumption kills around 2.6 million people every year, accounting for 4.7 per cent of global deaths. The WHO says there is no "safe" amount of alcohol to drink. The WHO's 2023 report states that there is no scientific evidence to suggest that there is any amount of alcohol that poses no health risk. The report says that as the amount of alcohol increases, its harm also increases. So the safer it is, the less alcohol you consume, the better. According to Dr Carina Ferreira-Borges, "We can't put a safe limit on alcohol use. It does not matter how much you drink - the danger begins with the first sip. "
