Iran openly sought Russia's support! Will Putin support Iran against America?
Putin said after meeting Iran's foreign minister. We have a long-standing friendly and reliable relationship with Iran and we are trying to support the Iranian people on our behalf. A strategic partnership agreement was also signed between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier this year to enhance security cooperation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (June 23, 2025). Russia has blamed the United States for attacking Iran's nuclear facilities. During the meeting at the Kremlin, Putin assured the Iranian delegation that the Iranian people can count on Russia for support.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has asked his Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to deliver a letter to Putin openly asking for support, Reuters reported. Iran does not like the way Russia is supporting it so far. "Putin should come out more openly against Israel and the US and support them," Khamenei's letter said. It is not yet clear what kind of assistance Tehran is seeking. Russia is a long-time ally of Iran. It plays a key role in Iran's nuclear negotiations with the West, with the help of a veto in the UN Security Council. Putin's military is currently fighting a major war in Ukraine for the fourth year in a row. Russia has so far shown no interest in a direct confrontation with the US over Iran. US President Donald Trump has tried to mend ties with Russia. Putin has repeatedly offered to mediate between the United States and Iran. According to the report, there has been a demand within Russia that Russia should support Iran in the same way as the US has supported Ukraine. "There is no basis and no justification for this aggressive action against Iran," Putin said after meeting Iran's foreign minister. We have a long-standing friendly and reliable relationship with Iran and we are trying to support the Iranian people on our behalf. A strategic partnership agreement was also signed between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier this year to enhance security cooperation.
