The department has now allotted him a residence at 39, Hardinge Road, which will be his new official residence. This means that the Lalu-Rabri family will now have to vacate the bungalow at 10 Circular Road. The reason for vacating Rabri Devi's bungalow is not just a political shift, it starts with a legal battle in 2017, which started with Tejashwi Yadav's insistence. When the NDA government was formed in 2017, Tejashwi Yadav had to step down from the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Along with this, he received a notice to vacate the allotted government accommodation 5, Deshratna Marg. Tejashwi had spent a lot of money in this bungalow and wanted to live in this house while the leader of the opposition lived. He challenged the decision in the High Court. The High Court not only rejected Tejashwi's petition, but also gave an even bigger decision. The court, in its verdict, scrapped the provision of lifetime bungalows, security staff and other facilities to former chief ministers. This decision is now effective in 2025. If Tejashwi had not gone to the High Court in 2017, Rabri Devi, being a former chief minister, could have remained in 10 Circular Road. It was only after Tejashwi's decision that the court had ruled to curb the special facilities of all former chief ministers.
