In his resignation letter to President Poudel, Oli cited the current situation in Nepal and said he was stepping down to find a constitutional and political solution to the current situation. Hours before Oli's resignation, protesters set fire to his private residence in Balkot and attacked the residences of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. Most of the protesters were students. In Kalanki, protesters burnt tyres to block roads. According to eyewitnesses, the protesting youths also pelted stones at the residence of Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung at Sunakothi in Lalitpur district. Gurung had ordered a ban on the social media platform.
