A tragic road accident took place in the district early on Tuesday. Here a truck entered a tent situated on the roadside. Many people were sleeping inside the tent, on whom the truck ran over. In this accident, at least five people, including two children sleeping there, have died, while six people are said to be injured. Police said that the nomads were sleeping on the side of the National Highway in Nattika under Valpad police station area. All these people had made a tent and were sleeping inside it. Meanwhile, at 4.30 in the morning, a truck crushed him. According to the police, those killed include two children aged one and a half years and four years and two women. According to the police, the truck was bringing wood from Kannur. During the accident, the truck was being driven by a driver who did not even have a license. Both were drunk at the time of the accident. He said that both have been taken into custody. After the incident, Thrissur City Police Commissioner R Ilango reached the spot and inspected the spot. He said that a case of culpable homicide has been registered under the non-bailable provision of BNS. The Police Commissioner said that there is a provision of 10 years imprisonment for this crime.  Another official said that according to the local people, the vehicle was coming at a high speed and after the accident, the driver and the passenger tried to escape. The officer said, “The local people caught both of them and handed them over to the police.” District Magistrate Arjun Pandian also visited the spot. He said that all the injured are undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College. The condition of two of the injured is critical. He said that the bodies will be handed over to their families after post-mortem.
