Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already taken a decision in this regard. He stressed the need to maintain law and order and respect the religious sentiments of the devotees during the yatra. The CM has directed officials that there should be no open sale of meat on the yatra route and shopkeepers should write their real names on their establishments. CM Yogi expressed apprehension of involvement of anti-social elements in disguise. A large number of devotees would take part in the yatra, he said. Therefore, there should not be any hindrance during the journey. The safety of travel should be fully ensured. Former Uttar Pradesh minister Jaiveer Singh said the Kanwar Yatra is a Hindu religious yatra. During such events, there should be no objection to the shopkeeper's real name being written in the shops. A pilgrimage is a religious journey. Therefore, it is necessary to close meat shops. The opposition parties had also lashed out the at the Yogi Adityanath government's decision. A Muslim opposition leader questioned the fairness of the restrictions. "If all shops are closed, how will people who feed their families survive?" he asked. He said if names are to be written, the decision should apply equally to everyone and not just target people of a particular community.
