A local court in Bareilly has sentenced the father to 10 years imprisonment on the basis of the testimony of innocent children. The court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for forcing his wife to commit suicide. Most importantly, the court convicted the accused on the basis of the testimony of his children. Additional District and Government Advocate Digambar Singh said that on August 29, 2023, Vikas Upadhyay, a resident of Sanjay Nagar, had assaulted his wife Vandana and the next day Vandana committed suicide by hanging herself. Vikas's 11-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter had also deposed against their father in the court. Both the children had said that their father often used to beat and torture their mother. The children also told that their father often said to their mother, "Why don't you die? The court of Additional Sessions Judge (First Class) Ravi Kumar Diwakar on Tuesday found Vikas guilty of abetting his wife's suicide and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. The case was registered on the complaint of Vandana's mother Kamini Saxena. The prosecution had produced eight witnesses, including two children, in support of its allegations. The 10-year-old son testified in court that his father regularly dragged his mother by the hair and beat her with belts. The day before her death, he had beaten her again in front of the children.
