A video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoting a purported government exhibition of old coins has gone viral on social media. The video claims that the central government is holding an exhibition of old and rare coins, where citizens can get Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh by selling their old coins.
However, this claim is completely false and misleading.
What is being claimed in the viral video?
In the viral video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is purportedly seen appealing to people to bring their old coins to the government exhibition. The video also claims that the government will buy these coins directly and pay lakhs of rupees in return.
After watching the video, many people are sharing it on social media thinking it to be a real government scheme.
PIB Fact Check reveals the truth
PIB Fact Check, the official fact-checking agency of the Government of India, has investigated this viral video and has termed it as completely fake.
PIB clarified on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that the video has been digitally manipulated. In this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's voice and video have been used in a wrong way to confuse people.
The PIB said the government has not organised any such exhibition of old coins, nor is it running any scheme to buy coins from people through any authorised buyer.
