NATIONAL - The suspicion is deepening that competitive examinations have become a means of rigging and all this is happening under the patronage of the administration. This suspicion began to arise due to the increasing incidents of paper leaks in many states. Now this has deepened due to the controversy over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted for admission in the top medical colleges of the country. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the examination, is under question. The suspicion was also strengthened by the fact that on the day when the entire country was focusing on the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections, NTA decided to release the results of the examination on the same day. This happened for the first time that 67 students who appeared in this examination scored full marks and secured first rank. Till now only one or two students have got the first rank at the All India level. NTA has clarified that easy examination, increase in registration, one question with two correct answers and granting of grace marks to compensate for the loss in exam time are the reasons that helped students score high marks. But this explanation is not acceptable to a large section of the students who appeared in the examination. It is alleged that the paper was leaked. This issue was raised by the Junior Doctors Network associated with the Indian Medical Association. He has asked for a CBI inquiry into the case and re-examination. Given the circumstances, it seems difficult to reject these demands. Even if this is done, it will be at the cost of continuing to cast doubt on the integrity of the examination.
