BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut has openly expressed her disagreement with veteran actress Sharmila Tagore's remarks. Kangana said she respects Sharmila Tagore's right to express her views but refuses to accept her interpretation of her poetry.
Sharing the video of Sharmila Tagore's interview on Instagram Story, Kangana said that poetry and songs should not be understood only by the literal meaning of their words. According to him, deep emotions are expressed through symbols and metaphors in literature. He said 'Vande Mataram' should be seen as a composition that evokes the spirit of the freedom movement and the strength of the country.
Kangana has a different take on 'Vande Mataram'
Citing the example of Swami Vivekananda's views on Shakti, Kangana said that it is not appropriate to look at it only from the perspective of religious ritual. He appealed to the people to rise above the "Hindu-Muslim mindset" and understand the broader national mood of the work.
However, Kangana's statement comes at a time when the political rhetoric over 'Vande Mataram' is already in full swing. The BJP has accused the Congress of insulting the national song over a video from the Congress headquarters related to the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 and demanded a public apology.
