Sonam Wangchuk's wife has approached the Supreme Court to appeal his arrest! The Supreme Court will now decide on Sonam Wangchuk's arrest.

Education reformer and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested during the recent protests in the Union Territory of Ladakh. In protest against his arrest, his wife has now approached the country's top court i.e. the Supreme Court. His wife Geetanjali Angmo has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against his arrest. He filed a writ petition on Thursday under Article 32 of the Indian Constitution, calling the arrest unconstitutional. At the same time, schools have been opened in Leh eight days after the protest. However, the internet is still closed. Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in connection with a protest demanding statehood in Ladakh on September 26, 2025. He was detained for allegedly disturbing public order, though his supporters and social activists say Wangchuk led a non-violent and peaceful movement. Geetanjali Angmo says the arrest is a violation of democratic rights and freedom of expression. He has appealed to the Supreme Court for an early hearing and justice so that Wangchuk can be released soon and democratic values can be protected. The curfew imposed after the protest in Leh had already been relaxed. Now after eight days, markets and schools have also been opened. The market is open from 10 in the morning till 6 in the evening. Schools have been instructed to open and close on time.
