You did not allow anyone to enter G-7. So we said we'd make our own club

Regarding the expansion of BRICS, Jaishankar said, "In the last few years, we have seen that many more countries want to join it. We decided to expand BRICS in Johannesburg last year. We sent invitations to new countries. We are going to meet for the meeting of this group in Kazan, Russia next month. Under BRICS we created a New Development Bank. It is not necessary that we have the same thinking on every issue.

You did not allow anyone to enter G-7. So we said we'd make our own club

Be it the question related to India's foreign policy on foreign forums or the question of PM Narendra Modi embracing Russian President Vladimir Putin. The answers given by Jaishankar become discussed in the news and social media. Jaishankar participated in the Global Center for Security Policy program in Geneva, Switzerland on 12 September. During this, Jaishankar was asked a question on the need for BRICS. BRICS is a group led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. BRICS' share in the world's GDP is 27 percent. With time, the number of countries joining this group has increased and it is being seen as an alternative to the US-led groups. Jaishankar replied, "To be honest, the BRICS club was formed because the name G-7. There was already a club. You did not allow anyone to enter that club. So we said that we will form our own club.'' Jaishankar said, ''We are good citizens of a good country, who have our own place in the global society. This is how clubs are formed. That's how it started. Like other clubs, it came into existence with time. Others also understood its importance. This is an interesting group. Other groups are connected to each other due to geographical or strong economic reasons. But BRICS includes countries like Russia, China, Brazil, India, South Africa. What was common among these countries was that big countries are rising in the global system.
