New Delhi / Mumbai: The state funeral and tribute events held in memory of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will begin on July 4, 2026. Delegations from many countries of the world will arrive in Iran during this time. Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will represent India at the ceremony.

According to Iranian media, a formal invitation was also sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral. However, it has been decided to send a delegation from the Indian government.

Events will be held in many cities from July 4 to 9

The tribute ceremony will begin on July 4 and 5 at the Imam Khomeini Mosala prayer hall in Tehran, where thousands of people will pay their respects to the late leader. It will be followed by a final visit to Tehran and the holy city of Qom on July 6 and 7. The final event will be held on July 9 in the northeastern city of Mashhad, where Ayatollah Khamenei will be laid to rest in the premises of the holy shrine of Imam Reza.
