Former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain is in trouble again. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 7.44 crore linked to his companies. The action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED's probe began on the basis of a CBI FIR alleging that Jain, as a minister, amassed disproportionate assets between February 2015 and May 2017. The CBI has already filed chargesheet in this case. Investigations revealed that Rs 7.44 crore was deposited in the bank by Jain's close aides Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain in November 2016, soon after demonetisation. He showed this money in the name of some companies, which were actually under the control of Satyendra Jain. The Income Tax Department and the courts have also held that the two are benamidars of the Jain family.
