Jharkhand govt ready to cancel JPSC Class 14 prelims, backlog exams amid student protests

Ranchi. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday made the government's stand clear in the Assembly amid the ongoing student agitation over the JPSC-JSSC recruitment exams. The Chief Minister said that the government is ready to cancel the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) preliminary examination and backlog examinations. Along with this, the examinations related to the exam conducting agency TDPL will also be investigated.

The Chief Minister said that the government is moving in the direction of comprehensive reform in the recruitment examination system. Expert advice from reputed institutions like IITs and IIMs will be sought to make the examination system more transparent, secure and reliable. The government claims that complaints and doubts being raised in the examination process are being taken seriously.

Questions raised on TDPL, hints at probe into agency's role

During his address in the Assembly, Hemant Soren also questioned the TDPL, the agency conducting the JPSC exam. He claimed that the company was associated with Uttar Pradesh and had links with Bihar as well. The Chief Minister alleged that attempts were made to damage the future of the youth of Jharkhand through external agencies.

He made it clear that the government will not back down from conducting investigations into the examinations about which complaints and doubts have come to the fore. The government's decision has been taken not only due to political pressure, but under the broader objective of reforming the examination system.

Chief Minister hits out at Opposition over student protests

During the speech of the Chief Minister, the atmosphere of the House was heated amid continuous sloganeering and ruckus by the opposition members. In a scathing attack on the BJP, Hemant Soren alleged that the opposition is trying to give a political colour to the student movement.

He said that those who talk about democracy and the dignity of the House, they are tarnishing its dignity by creating ruckus in the House. The Chief Minister also accused the opposition of playing with the future of the youth.

Taking a jibe at the BJP, Soren said, "They only pretend to wear saffron, now the party people are engaged in political self-interest by wearing the robe of a student. After his statement, the political slugfest in the House intensified.

He also referred to Monday's Assembly session.

The Chief Minister, in his speech, also referred to the Assembly gherao on Monday. The students' agitation over recruitment exams in Jharkhand continues to intensify with protesters demanding alleged glitches in the examination process, transparency and improvement in the recruitment system.
