Sanjay Roy sentenced to life imprisonment in RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case
"The evidence makes everything clear about what happened that night. Even after repeated arguments, the accused was not proved guilty. The body of the trainee woman doctor was recovered from the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises on the morning of August 9 last year. The case was initially investigated by a Special Investigation Team of the Kolkata Police, which arrested Roy.

A court in West Bengal's Sealdah has sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment in the RG Kar rape and murder case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. The victim's father had demanded maximum punishment for the accused. The judge had already made it clear on January 18 that the maximum punishment in the case could be death penalty, while the minimum punishment could be life imprisonment. The sentencing process against Roy in the rape and murder case was completed on Monday, but the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) probe into the tampering and alteration of evidence will continue. During the hearing, the CBI counsel said, "We have presented evidence. We have worked according to the law. "The victim was on duty for 36 hours, she was raped and murdered at her workplace.
