Salute to the bravery of CRPF! Highest number of gallantry medals awarded on India's 80th Independence Day
The list also includes the name of DIG M Dhinakaran, who has been awarded the President's Police Medal (Distinguished Service) for more than three decades of distinguished service, dedication, integrity and outstanding professional contribution. He has earlier served in the SPG and is currently heading the CRPF Recruit Training Centre at Avadi in Chennai.
On 15th August 2026, when India is going to complete 80 years of its independence, on the same proud occasion, another major achievement has been registered in the name of the country's internal security watchdog CRPF.
According to a notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, a total of 86 gallantry and service medals have been awarded to the CRPF. These include 24 Gallantry Medals, 5 Rashtrapati Medals (Distinguished Service) and 57 Medals (Meritorious Service).
The CRPF personnel have been awarded the gallantry medals for their indomitable courage and devotion to duty in two counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and one operation against militants in Manipur. All these campaigns took place in the year 2024.

The CRPF, which has about 3.25 lakh personnel, is a key pillar of the country's internal security and plays a key role in counter-insurgency operations in the Naxal-affected areas, Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.
